Students will already have observed a dyeing demonstration or video demonstrating submersion, dip and painting and dry-application techniques.
Students will be reminded of safety considerations to be observed throughout.
Activity
Students may use just their package of dye or they may share with others and make multicoloured products. Sharing will be encouraged!

Day 1
1. At least one of the two products (yarn or fabric) must be either ombre or multicoloured. Both products cannot dyed a solid colour. Consider what effects you would like to create and discuss with teacher.
2. Proceed with dyeing process. Label rinsed products with your name and set out to dry.
3. Clean up and put tools and materials away.
Day 2
4. Examine all the dried yarns. Compare the effectiveness of the different techniques used by everyone. Did your yarn work out how you had envisioned? Did you change your plan along the way? Why? Evaluate the success of your efforts in the context of how you can use it for your character doll. Plan for how you are going to use the yarn to take advantage of its best parts.
5. Examine all the dried fabrics. Compare the effectiveness of the different techniques used by everyone. Did your fabric work out how you had envisioned? Did you change your plan along the way? Why? Was that a good decision? Evaluate the success of your efforts in the context of how you can use it for your character doll. Plan for how you are going to use the fabric to take advantage of its best parts - make adjustments to your sewing pattern if necessary.
6. If you were going to dye some yarn or fabric in the future what would you do differently?
Wonderful! I particularly appreciate Question 6; there is always so much to learn when dyeing.
